11.17.2024 "Stewards of the Gifts of god"
What does it mean to steward something? Come find out.
What does it mean to steward something? Come find out.
Join us as Pastor Curtiss Lanham helps us remember our roots in the reformation of the Church sparked by Martin Luther - roots that are sunk deep in the freedom and grace of God in Jesus.
To get to the state of being satisfied requires hunger. We don't mind being hungry when our pantry is full and we can whip up our next meal whenever we want. But what about when we are hungry for things that are beyond our control, beyond our ability to provide for ourselves? What then? Join us as we investigate the relationship between hunger and satisfaction.
Join us as we experience our first "Testimony of Faith" weekend and hear how God has been at work in the life of Kristin, and how our testimonies are part of overcoming our accuser, the devil. (Pastor Steve forgot to turn on his microphone for the first 45-60 seconds, so be patient).
God's Word takes up a tough topic today: marriage and divorce. But don't lose sight of God's heart in all this, because God's ideal is given as a gift to surround people in love for a life of flourishing - even when reality is less than ideal.
What does it mean to be committed? Well that depends on a number of factors, not the least of which is - is it up to you alone, or do you have help? This one may not be going where you think it is. Come find out!
What does a tight-rope walker pushing a wheelbarrow have to do with my tongue? Come find out as we apply the picture of being "in the wheelbarrow" to our scriptures from James and Isaiah about our tongue and the words we speak (and type...and text). NOTE: a small portion of the sermon is missing and the audio is not as good after that point. Sorry for the inconvenience.
What does a wheelbarrow have to do with faith? Come find out with us as we explore the difference between believing from a distance in the crowd, and entrusting ourselves to another up close.
We explore a handful of verses from the longest chapter in the Bible - Psalm 119. We focus in on 8 of the 176 verses of this love poem. When your heart is captured, you can't help but sing!
We explore what it looks like to go through the motions when your heart's not in it, and what its like to have your heart captivated. The result...and the journey itself, is pretty astonishing!
When a line gets drawn in the sand, how do you get the courage and fortitude to stand on the side that's "right" and you know is going to cost you dearly? This message is probably not what you think it's about. But then again, a good story is full of surprises!
How do you live the reality of God's presence and kingdom in a place and time that is opposed to the things of God? To help us answer this question we take a look at Paul's letter to the Church at Ephesus. His answer might be a bit of a surprise!
Are you hungry? Join us as we consider what it means to be human and to hunger, and how that is actually the way God designed us. Being hungry isn't bad...it's a set-up for being fed, and even delighted!
As Pastor Steve preaches his 99th sermon at Trinity, he takes us back to the first few Bible passages he preached on in July of 2022 and invites us to consider where we were then, where we are today, and where Jesus might be taking us over the next year.
As we celebrate the 4th of July, our Independence Day, we consider what it means for followers of Jesus to be "strong."
Join us as we wrestle with what it looks like to wait on God.
Join us as our guest pastor, Rev. Curtiss Lanham, helps us consider the "what if's" of life when storms arise.
Join us as we celebrate new members who are joining our church family and as we investigate what it means to be a church who helps each other see God and His goodness.
What is the "Trinity"? And what does it have to do with us? Join us as we celebrate "Holy Trinity Sunday" and discover what it means that God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit delight to be with us and for us!
Join us as we celebrate Pentecost and the gift of God's Holy Spirit.
Jesus prays protection for his disciples, and for us. On Mothers' Day we consider what it looks like to protect while allowing to learn and fall.
Join us this week as we investigate the idea of being astonished by Jesus.
Jesus talks about staying connected to Him in terms of a vine and its branches. Join us as we explore what it means to "remain" and "bear fruit" as we stay connected to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.
Celebrate the resurrection of Jesus with us as we hear how Jesus fulfills the 700-year-old prophecy of Isaiah that "God will prepare a feast of rich food for all people." Now, 2,000 years later, Jesus is still giving us foretastes of the feast that is still to come!
Jesus enters Jerusalem on a donkey to shouts of "Hosanna!" as well as fear and scheming. Different people have different ideas about what this public entry means, and they are all betting on their interpretations. Hopes and fears. Risks and rewards. Just how much will this Jesus pay out?
James and John (brothers, and disciples of Jesus) ask Jesus a question and Jesus responds, "You don't know what you are asking." Sometimes that's true for us as we follow Jesus. We are always functioning with only part of the information. So...what does Jesus do with a question like that? Come find out with us today.
When we get bit by darkness, the venom messes up our minds, and we believe that only more darkness will protect us - and light will kill us. What to do? Join us as we explore God's light for people bit by darkness, and discover that the darkness is no match for God and his light!
Discover what lengths God will go to give you a safe place for your heart - a place to grieve and be comforted, a place to confess and be forgiven and restored, a place to be in process and be given both patience and help, a place to share and expand the joy in your life...and so much more. It might sound too good to be true, but God seems intent on defending this kind of space from all enemies...because God is intent on defending you and your heart!
God gets up close and personal this week in a way that maybe offends our sensibilities. But don't miss the promise of "El Shaddai - God Almighty" in the crazy story of Abraham and Sarah and the deeply intimate covenant of circumcision. It's a promise of life that is astounding. It's a promise that's as close as your own body and soul - and the things you hold most dear to your heart. It's the promise of God fighting for you at your most vulnerable and intimate places.
Join us as Rev. Dr. Justin Rossow takes us on the familiar (and maybe not so familiar) journey of Jesus' parable commonly known as The Prodigal Son. To learn more about his ministry that helps people delight in taking small next steps following Jesus (Next Step Press) check out the website and the Next Step Community Blog.
We go up the mountain with Jesus, Peter, James and John as they witness the power of Jesus' transfiguration - and we discover that, while we journey here on earth and Jesus gives us glimpses of his power and his kingdom, we also taste death. Join us as we receive hope from Jesus in the face of trials and suffering.
We join the apostle Paul in discovering the blessing of sharing God's blessings, and how letting go of our "rights" frees us to experience the expanse of joy in sharing the best thing we have - the Gospel good news of life in Jesus that triumphs over death and darkness.
Join us as we follow Jesus through some really interesting encounters in Mark chapters 1, 2, and 3. Where Jesus goes in, things happen. And what comes out is...well, you'll see!
Join us as we take a look at Jesus calling the first disciples to "follow him" and we wonder what it would look like for us to "drop our nets" and be singularly devoted to following Jesus.
Rev. Abel Araya, the director of LINC-Houston is our guest preacher. Join us as we investigate God's activity of rebuilding as we look into the story of Nehemiah, and as we hear about the mission and ministry of LINC-Houston.
Join us as we kick of the New Year with Jesus' parable of the Sower and the Soils.
Join us for Christmas Eve Morning worship. We experienced a few technical difficulties, so the video picks up a couple minutes into the sermon and the audio isn't as clear...but, the message from God's Word is a delightful picture!
Join us as the children and students (and a couple young adults) tell us the story of Jesus' birth with a little humor.
Is this sermon about hot wings?! Well...not exactly. But it's delicious all the same.
Join us for the first Sunday in the season of Advent - a time of expectant waiting and preparation not only for the first advent ("coming") of Jesus that we celebrate at Christmas every year, but especially as we wait for Jesus' second advent (his return in glory) - when he will establish peace and the triumph of God's kingdom forever!
Join us as we wrap up our "Reimagining Church" series. Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT.
Join us for week #13 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we wrestle with staying PRESENT to pain and suffering rather than ESCAPING. We apologize for the sound and video quality, but we had some technical difficulties. Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT.
Sorry. We don't have video for this sermon. However, the topic is addressed in the sermon for 11.12.2023.
Join us for week #11 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we wrestle with the question, "What about when my faith and faith values are under fire?" How does Jesus want me to live then? This is not an easy topic that one sermon will "solve," but we can start drinking the good news of Jesus so that we are refreshed when times of fire and persecution come. Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT
Sorry. We don't have video for this sermon. However, the topic is addressed in the sermon for 10.29.2023.
Join us for week #9 of our "Reimagining Church" series. We spent a little less time on the metaphor of Banquet, and dug a little deeper into how the New Testament talks about being "In Christ" and having "Christ In Us". This actually helped us see how we are secure in the "Bank Vault" of Jesus, but empowered to carry the sweet "Banquet" of Jesus vulnerably and accessibly into the world! Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT
Join us for week #8 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we notice the waters of "container thinking" and how that impacts our interaction with the world around us. This week we didn't get to the "Banquet" part yet because we needed more time to explore the ideas of containers and boundaries (like a Bank Vault) and how they apply to social groups, like the church. Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT
Join us for week #7 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we play in the waters of the Rope Team metaphor and how that shapes how we "pass on the faith." Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT
Join us for week #6 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we try on the lenses of a Relay Race and a group of people hiking who are bound to each other by carabiners and a rope. How do these two different pictures affect how we "pass on the faith" to the next generations? Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT
Join us for week #5 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we play in the waters of the GPS metaphor and begin to answer the question "Where am I?" Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT
Join us for week #4 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we try on the lenses of Grade Point Average (GPA) and Global [God] Positioning System (GPS) as it relates to our learning and growing. Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT
Join us for week #3 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we play in the waters of the Gospel picture of Adventuring with Jesus. Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT.
Join us for week #2 of our "Reimagining Church" series as we try on the lenses of the American cultural phenomenon of the Assembly Line and the Gospel picture of Adventure in following Jesus. Please download the PDF handout that is used in this sermon: HANDOUT.
As we gather in this place, we pray that our Lord would make us to be instruments of His peace. Where we have known turmoil, He has given us tranquility; when we have known sin, He has granted us forgiveness. May we share His grace with others, not disturbing the peace, but restoring it.
“The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God!” He has given us victory over sin and death through our Lord Jesus Christ! What joyous celebration, is ours today because He has conquered death and given us life!
Jesus has shown the power of God to bring peace through His triumphal entry into this world. May we embrace His presence in our lives turning all things over to His Lordship that we may use these opportunities to spend our life in service to His kingdom and to others.
